No.
From Sandy :
Dean Melville and I married shortly after high school.  We recently celebrated our 50th anniversary.  Who would have thought? We had three sons during the 1960's, one of whom, to our great sorrow, was killed in an automobile accident in 2006.

We worked, studied and raised our sons in various locations as education and careers were pursued. Dean graduated from University of Rochester, then proceeded to U. of R. Medical School, an internship and residency in internal medicine.  When he finished we joined the Public Health Service and were stationed in Tupper Lake NY, in the Adirondacks.  The Public Health Service paid a percentage of the abundant student loans in exchange for a service commitment.  We then moved to nearby Saranac  Lake.

Living in the Adirondacks meant some long drives in order to access various opportunities.  Now that Dean had completed his studies for a while, I commuted daily to St. Lawrence University in Canton, about 55 miles away, then to New Hampshire for law school.  I practiced law in the Adirondacks.

Then, we returned to Rochester so that Dean could do a radiology residency and a neuroradiology fellowship.  He now works in Syracuse.  We divide our time between Norwich, Syraacuse and a camp in the Adirondacks.

In leisure time Dean has enjoyed becoming an instrument rated pilot, woodworking, stone wall building, skiing, and running. I have done and am doing volunteer work, serving on several boards, in hospitals, a food pantry, as a Master Gardner, trustee of an historic church and cemetery.

We have eight grandchildren and a cat.

Married John and lived in Owego for 15 years, raising twin boys and another girl and boy. We also had foster children for quite a few years. We moved to North Carolina in 1981 when the twins were in third grade.
In 1998 we moved to Lake Placid, Florida where we enjoy retirement years. We are in the process of building a new home and will update classmates with our address shortly.
From Mary:

John and I are looking forward to sharing memories with other classmates at the reunion in November. See you there!

My mother was the teacher who brought the art of the Maypole dance to our grade schools. See if you can identify someone in the pictures.

What grade school did you attend?:  Moved to Ithaca in 8th Grade from Connecticut. Attended parochial school.
What have you been doing for the past 50 years?:
When I look back over the past fifty plus years I realize that I have really never left being in school. When Ithaca High’s history chairman, the late Curtis Pfaff, encouraged me to go into teaching, I did not realize that it would be the beginning of a lifelong commitment to education. That first year out of high school was a year of work and discovery before heading off to SUNY Brockport to begin my BS studies in social studies education. Four years later I was teaching history in the public schools. That phase lasted five years before I moved into school administration, where I served as a high school principal for twenty eight years. During that time, I finished up my Master’s degree in educational administration at SUNY Geneseo (where I also taught as an adjunct for many years) and continued with additional graduate studies in my field at Cornell University. Summers were often spent in professional development activities ((National Science Foundation grants, National Humanistic Education Center's Camp Sagamore (one of the Adirondacks' Great Camps), Principals'Academies-Cornell)). In the last decade of my career I served on the Board of Directors of the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS). After retirement I worked for them as a field representative and contract negotiator. I have remained active in the field working as an executive director of a foundation and am currently involved as an administrative and curriculum consultant in both New York and Florida.
On the personal side, I have been married to Linda Harrington Beaulieu since 1968. Linda is also an educator. She taught English and gifted education during most of her career. One of her many interests (a true Renaissance person) is horses. That interest has played an important part in our lives because of her involvement as a carriage driving competitor, carriage museum curator, clinician and judge. This has not only given us opportunities to travel worldwide, but has played a big part in our non-school social lives.

The retirement years have afforded me more time for involvement in my hobbies as a genealogist, reading (histories, biographies), listening to music (folk, oldies),following politics ("political junkie"),playing (golf, pickleball),volunteering at a historical society as curator, and reflecting on what this lifelong trip has been all about and wondering where it is going next.
My involvement as both co-chair of our Reunion Committee and this website's editor has been energizing. I have found that reexamining the high school years from an adult's perspective has been most revealing. I'm looking forward to the "70th Birthday Bash" next year, and our 55th Reunion. Both events will be staged in the Ithaca area. Watch this website for details.
I have many to thank for all that has happened along life's journey. Many of my former school mates from my Ithaca years are particularly deserving of my long overdue thanks. I've enjoyed following many of them through this website, our alumni association, and from personal contacts. I look forward to touching base even more in the years ahead.

What have you been doing for the past 50 years?:
God, has it been 50? Let's see, 4 college-slash-booze followed by 4 in the USAF; 12 years in the UK raising kids (two still wonderful "boys") and managing a plant for Barber-Greene Co. (road building equipment); back to the US (Illinois) as a CTO for Tellabs and AC Nielsen (12); then my own software company (sold it after 10 and retired). Went back to school at 60 for an MFA in writing (Bennington) and a flight instructor rating; caregiver for my father for 7 years, recently moved to WA after he passed to be nearer grandkids; published first novel a few months ago (In Search of Wings Lost), enjoying the hell out of family and a blessed life I really, really don't deserve. Still miss that egg salad sandwich and fries at the lunch counter in Whalens. And the blocking sled with Coach Joe barking Hit it harder. And...

What have you been doing for the past 50 years?:
Today I was sitting on the dock after a full day of working on the brick walk first laid thirty five years ago from the bricks that came from the old Rothschild building. The seventy degree weather, full sun, and the two Adirondack chairs on the dock had been pulling at me all day. The golden orange Tamarack tree across from me had grown, its reflection now complete to the edge of the dock. A pair of mallards nestled on the raft was also basking in the sun. When the male stood up to waggle his tail and stretch, I noticed his spindly legs were the same color as the tamarack. His colors, the tree colors, and the surrounding hills were all so beautiful. I have been here at this house and land in Ellis Hollow with my husband, for forty seven years, connecting with nature’s gifts, and building gardens that reflect them.
My life over the past fifty years has been full and rich—most likely because of who I married and where I live. After graduating from Boston University, with my senior year transferred from Cornell, I married Bob Hillman, a Veterinarian and professor of large animal medicine, obstetrics and surgery at Cornell. I stayed home to raise three great kids, plus our own home-bred Thorougbreds and always a standard poodle in the mix. Sabbaticals and travel to 24 countries have kept me from becoming the stodgy wife down on the farm. The farm is really thirteen acres of hill pasture, acre pond, apple orchard, riding ring, barn, two vegetable gardens, house, Lord and Burnham Greenhouse and pergola. Since there were no trees on the property when we bought it forty seven years ago, it was wide open for ideas and plantings. Last year our gardens were on the National Garden Conservancy Tour, one of three hundred gardens across the U.S. that were open to the public. Some of you who were in town for the 49th reunion, came. This is where we raised our three children. Those years were full of ballet, crew, theater, and candy striping. Two of our children went to Cornell, and one to Ithaca College. Our youngest, Rob, has become small animal surgeon; Alison is an International Lawyer, and Denley is the business manager for Bangs Ambulance.
Staying home to raise our children allowed me time for a life- long passion, the horse. The horses we raised and I trained big boned and handsome. One of my favorites I rode to FEI levels in Dressage. The last which I delivered 20 years ago is a lovely chestnut mare. She is the most talented but because of my serious gardening, we cross the riding ring and head for the hills with two poodles behind. Life is good.
Training, teaching, and showing dog obedience was another strong interest. Kaio, my last white standard female poodle, who had a longer attention span than my own, honored her training with Dog World. This became useful because she would find my boots, pick up dropped silverware, or take the newspaper to Bob. She also went to Boces and to the Woman’s Correctional Facility in Lansing where her instincts for giving a child just what it needed always pleased and amazed me.
At the age of 35 I discovered that I really liked stone and brick. Was this the calling of my Dutch Brink heritage, or just the fact that I had the good fortune of a gift of bricks from the famous Rothschild’s building in Ithaca; a building I found beautiful even as a child? I started by making a patio, then walkways to connect the pergola, greenhouse and house to the driveway. Then the 100 foot flower bed was bordered by a stone wall. Next, the making of a koi pool out of two pallets of river washed stone. Three years ago I joined the Ithaca Garden Club which has been an avenue for making arrangements for the Johnson Art Museum, Art In Bloom, and Civic Development. As Horticulture Chair, I had an influence on topics, speakers, and programs. It is nice to know so many wonderfully talented women who share a common interest. Many have become friends.
In reflection, much of my life has been spent with animals—both training and competing. With my wonderful husband Bob who turned 80 last January, and still has not retired from Cornell, there have been some amazing trips to twenty five foreign countries and Sabbaticals, where I rode auction horses and made hand built pottery. Together we make applesauce and strawberry jam, and plant and harvest enough food for two freezers. Now we are raising dahlias. I make arrangements for many organizations, or friends who are ill, or just for the fun of giving. Those that I cannot use are sold to a flower shop. An article about me and our gardens is in this month’s issue of the Upstate Gardeners' Journal. You can access it through Google. I can say that our giving has touched Ithaca Beautification, the Hanger Theater, Ithaca Falls, The Farmer's Market, Hospicare, and helped in rebuilding the gardens in New Orleans.
It will be wonderful to connect with so many of you on the 10th of November.

What grade school did you attend?:  Hayts School is where it all started and then on to Central school which is now GIAC . then to Boynton and then to Ithaca High .
What have you been doing for the past 50 years?:
Well, a long story--- After graduation worked in a body shop until January 1961 and enlisted in the Marines. Left in February '61 . Started out at Parris Island for 12 weeks. Then off to Camp Lejune for infantry training.Once done with that I went to Memphis for aviation school and graduated in the top 10 Percent of my class so had a choice of duty stations so chose El Toro,California. Joined a squadron there in 1962 .We flew ground support for the ground troops that needed close air support so we were there to bail them out. While with them traveled to Southern California, and then spent about 2 months on an Aircraft carrier for night flights. Spent some time in Yuma, Arizona and then Fallon, Nevada for about 3 weeks.I also got on a standby situation during the Cuban Missile crisis but was called off so did not get deployed East. Deployed to Iwakuni, Japan for a year and while there was deployed to Okinawa & the Philippines, also to Korea and Taiwan for 3 weeks. Returned state side and was sent to the East coast to the 2ND MAW and a maintenance squadron for 6 months. While there got the chance and took it to deploy to Spain for about a month and to Valencia, Spain for 3 days of liberty. What a place that was!
So, spent a great four years serving our country and traveling a lot and all by air mostly .
After I got out in '65 got married to a girl from Chicago and that lasted nine years. We had two sons and one adopted son. Went to work for Ithaca Gun for 13 years
and then left them and went to Cornell for 20 years as an experimental machinist for the Chemistry Department. While there made a lot of special projects for grad students and professors and most was custom made things used for research . I was there as a Machinist till 1992 and my boss retired so I was put in as worker and manager for the next 5 years running the shop as well as doing the work .Then in 1997 they closed the shop and laid me off so got my severance pay and unemployment for a year and decided to retire at 57 to start my own fabricating business here at home doing a lot of work for Cornell . Met my second wife there and we got married in '79 and now heading for 32 years .She had 2 girls whom I adopted .That makes 5 kids, 11 grandchildren and one great grand kid. Live in Newfield with my wife on about 200 acres, rehabbing ex-race horses off the track .My wife has her own business at home as well. We also have two businesses together .
If I missed anything just shoot me an email and I will answer them .
